Ashmoor Women's 1st XI. 2

Torbay Women's 1st XI. 1

ASHMOOR Women's 1st XI, having been promoted from last season, had their first run out in an evenly contested match with Torbay 1sts.

It was a dream start with Sophie Blee putting Ashmoor ahead after just two minutes following great build-up play by Emmy Buckman and stand-in skipper Emily Hunter.

Despite some other good attacking moves, the home side couldn't capitalise and Torbay equalised from a penalty corner from a rare sortie forward.

The second half was an even affair and played in very good spirit. Tilly McEwen went closest for Ashmoor on a handful of occasions and eventually was rewarded with a goal from a well-worked penalty corner routine.

There were strong performances from all of the Ashmoor squad - a great mix of youth & experience. This Saturday, the Ashmoor Women's 1st XI have their first away match at Marjons against Devonport Services.

Ashmoor Men's 2nd team acquitted themselves well in their opening game in Division Two South.

New captain Reuben Stanley opened the scoring from a rebound at a penalty corner just five minutes in.

Henry Walker fired over the bar minutes later, before Charles Walker got the final Ashmoor touch on a scrambled goal which the Torbay keeper was unlucky not to keep out. Just before half time Walker junior played in Walker senior for a cool finish to make it 3-0.

Two quick goals from Charles Walker immediately after the break put the game to bed, and took last year’s club top scorer to four! Torbay pulled one back midway through the half with a reverse stick strike, before Walker put it on a plate for Harrold Retallick to make it six on his return to the side.

This Saturday, the Men's 2nd team travel to play Exeter University.

Elsewhere, the Men's 3rd team lost a spirited game to Torbay 2nds by 4-1. Ernie Hunt was both player of the match and the scorer for Ashmoor. Meanwhile, the Ashmoor 4th team had no game after Devonport withdrew their team from the league.
