Totnes juniors put on powerful performance in plate event
There was much better news for Totnes’s junior sections when both the under 14s and 15s found themselves in a double header at Borough Park in the quarter finals of the Devon Junior Plate competition.
Crediton had previously beaten Oakhampton 45-0, so this was always going to be a tough, close game.
After a team talk by a regal-looking Luke Collins the game began.
The pink marauders took the game to the visitors and the first half was contested in the Crediton half. Totnes pressure paid off and saw Lian Hancock going over in the corner. This was quickly followed by a Finn Harvey try, as he steam rolled himself under the posts. Thomas Rogers added the extras.
The visitors replied late on, but Totnes held a 12-5 half time score.
Crediton came straight back into the game in the second half and scored an early blistering try to pull back 12-10.
However, it was the pink machine who rallied and former Dothraki number eight Kyle McGhee forced himself over the line to extend the lead to 17-10.
Jacob ‘Swifty’ Finch added a fourth try to make it 22-10.
As the Totnesian home crowd broke into a chorus of ‘Lily the Pink’, this provoked Crediton into a barnstorming finish as they clawed back to 22-17. The Totnes lads dug deep and held on for a fantastic win.
This victory gave the under 14s a reward of a home semi-final spot against either Exeter youth or Brixham on February 25.
In the words of Miley Cyrus “Pink is not a colour.....it’s an attitude”
