Totnes Pride returns on Thursday, September 24, with more than 40 events planned across Totnes and Dartington over four days.

The volunteer-run festival, which is returning after a three-year hiatus, includes live music, exhibitions, cinema, parties, workshops and family events, with a number of free and alcohol-free activities.

The festival's centrepiece will take place on Saturday, when Totnes Castle will be wrapped in a 150-foot Pride flag.

The free event, Capture the Castle, will run from 10:00 to noon, with the flag being unfurled at 10:30 by local flag bearers.

Live music will be provided by Devon Drummers and Totnes Harmony Choir.

Organisers say the event is open to the LGBTQ+ community and allies, although free registration is required.

Other events include a four-day Queer Joy art exhibition showcasing work by 18 local artists, while Totnes Cinema will host a weekend of queer films.

There will also be an under-25s Youth Pride party at the Jamming Station and family-friendly activities across several venues.

The programme extends beyond music and nightlife, with poetry, literature and art workshops.

Organisers said the festival had been designed to reflect the town, as well as its LGBTQ+ community.

“Totnes has always been a progressive centre for arts and culture,” one spokesperson said. “With the Fringe and now Totnes Pride spotlighting and sharing queer arts and lives, Totnes is genuinely undergoing a community-built renaissance.”

Totnes Town Council, one of the sponsors for this year’s event, said they are delighted to welcome this new Pride event to the community.

“Pride is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our town, promote inclusion and equality, and bring people together. We look forward to seeing the community come together in celebration.”

The full programme runs from Thursday to Sunday and includes events at 15 venues.
