Devon & Cornwall Police officers have recently visited a Totnes equestrian centre to advise staff on spotting potential thieves, protecting stock and strengthening security measures.

Community Support Officers Alesha Richards and Jason Vasey from the Totnes Neighbourhood Team visited Redpost Equestrian to provide staff with crime prevention advice.

The session was focused on ways to prevent, reduce and deter retail theft and covered practical advice on recognising suspicious behaviour, identifying potential shoplifters, improving staff awareness, protecting stock and reporting incidents effectively.

PCSO Vasey said: “Working together with local businesses is an important part of keeping our community safe and supporting the people who work within it. We would like to say a big thank you to the team at Redpost Equestrian for their time and participation. Prevention is key and we want to make sure offenders don’t think they can get a free ride.”

The visit comes ahead of the national 2026 Safer Business Action (SaBA) week, which begins on Monday, November 9.

Devon and Cornwall Police is supporting the initiative as part of its ongoing work with partners to tackle retail crime, anti-social behaviour and other offences affecting businesses and local communities.

Residents and businesses can sign up to the free Devon and Cornwall Police Community Messaging scheme to receive local crime prevention advice and information about incidents and events.

More information is available at Devon and Cornwall Community Messaging.

Totnes Police is also inviting residents to meet local officers and raise concerns at its next ‘Chat with a Cop’ drop-in session.

The event will take place at Totnes Methodist Church, in Fore Street, on Friday, November 13, from 10 am to 11.15 am.

Residents can also follow Totnes Police on Facebook for updates from local neighbourhood teams.
