Soundart Radio, based in studios on the Dartington Estate, is about to celebrate its 20th birthday.
The occasion will also see the station launching on DAB digital radio on the South Hams multiplex, and the station’s involvement in the Arts Council-funded project ‘Radio Rights’ which is a programme of festivals throughout the year.
They have organised an event called ‘Retroauditive’ for people who have been involved with the community station during its two decades.
The event is being held on Friday, November 13, and Saturday, November 14, between 5pm and 10pm with performances and happenings and including DJs a bar, food and an exhibition at the radio studio
Reflecting on the past 20 years, co-founder Lucinda Guy said: “I do remember the other founder, Nell Harrison, saying to me there's no reason why this won't still be going in 10 or 20 years time.
“When you're looking forwards at it, it's huge but when you look back on it, it's tiny and it feels very recent in a lot of ways.
The station began at a turbulent time as Lucinda explained: “We launched at that moment when the college was starting to look very threatened, so we saw the college leave and the students leave and that was the biggest change but that was very early in our story.
“We've seen a lot of other changes, Dartington has changed management quite a bit but we're quite resilient and we've stayed here throughout that because we really wanted to keep a space open that was for the whole community to access, but also to keep alive some of those more creative ways of being in the world.”
The studios are in what was the student union at the college and many of the original participants were students.
The entertainment over the two days is also being broadcast live on Soundart Radio.
