Kingsbridge removal boss Andrew Dyer is planning to make his second trip to the Poland-Ukraine border at Zamosc.

Andrew Dyas set up Kingsbridge and Salcombe Ukraine Aid and he is renewing the appeal for items such as food, blankets, sleeping bags and baby products as well as cash.

The first trip was last month and took around six days in all. Andrew was accompanied by his friend Tony Taylor.

Andrew said: “When we got there we took the items to a school and then managed to find out where the Ukrainians were who had crossed over the border. We wanted to help out with them but found it difficult without speaking either Ukranian, Russian or Polish.”

Andrew added: “The generosity of people has been phenomenal. We are looking for specific items but there are a few things that are not needed such as clothes. Sadly we have heard stories that they have just been dumped so we are sticking closely to the items that they have asked for.”

“Totnes Books asked me how much it costs for a return run which comes to around £3100 and they gave us an incredible £3500.”

“On the first trip we used a lorry but this time we are planning to use two large Luton vans so we’ll be able to go a bit quicker. We won’t be limited to 55 miles per hour and especially will be take advantage in the lack of of a speed limit on the German autobahns.”

The round trip is approximately 2740 miles and the plan is to pack everything up this weekend and set off around Sunday evening April 10. They are hoping to reach Zamosc either around midnight on Monday night or in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

There is a Crowdfunder page and on April 4 the total had surpassed that reaching £10,363.
