A large helicopter was spotted over Totnes on Friday, July 17 as a multi-agency rescue was underway involving a casualty on the mud flats opposite Longmarsh.

Totnes crews first went to Longmarsh, where they were told that the casualty was actually on the opposite side of the River Dart.

Crews quickly relocated before making their way on foot via the coastal path to Headcliffe Point and along the foreshore to reach the casualty and begin giving first aid.

Because of the location and nature of the incident, the Incident Commander asked for HM Coastguard and the RNLI.

Fortunately, the Fire Service rescue boat was able to safely take the casualty across the river to Longmarsh, where they were met by South Western Ambulance Service paramedics for more assessment and treatment.
