The Brexit referendum was the botched result of David Cameron’s attempt to control the rebels in the Conservative Party.
Before running a national referendum it seems reasonable to establish that there is pressure for change and that voters are familiar with the facts on which a decision is to be made. This clearly was not so with the Brexit referendum.
Of the people eligible to vote, 34.7 per cent voted to leave and 62.6 per cent either were unsure and didn’t vote or voted to stay.
This is hardly a ringing endorsement for Brexit.
If we are to ask the people of the UK to make such an important and irreversible decision, surely we should ensure that a significantly larger proportion of the voters are in favour of the change.
