As chairman of Marldon Parish Council, I consider that it is in the interest of all Marldon council tax payers to be kept informed of the prudence and economic performance of the parish council.
The council precept on a Band D property for the financial year 2018-19 is £14.35, which equates to above 14.35p per week.
Marldon has the third lowest precept of the 64 South Hams parish councils. Only Buckfastleigh West and Woodleigh have slightly lower precepts but they are smaller parishes.
Examples of parishes of similar size to Marldon: Berry Pomeroy, £17.76; Dartington, £32.47; Littlehempston, £31; Holne, £50.59; Modbury, £45.02; South Brent, £60.21; Stoke Gabriel, £26.40; and Totnes, which is of course larger, £125.98.
Unlike some of the parishes, Marldon does not receive subsidies from South Hams District Council for the managements of parish recreational facilities.
All Marldon recreational fields – Tor Field, Jubilee Meadow, Peter’s Field, Broomhill Meadow, Marldon allotments – are managed by the parish council, with the assistance of volunteers from Marldon Environment Group, to a very high standard.
In addition, the parish council’s investment account balance of £20,920 is most likely the highest of any South Hams parish council and certainly those of a similar size.
