OVER the past couple of seasons, league games between Totnes RFC and Paignton have been close fought with the latter often coming out on top.

The clash also represents the chance to play for the ‘Westward Salver’, which has been played for between the two clubs since 1979.

Totnes applied early pressure but it was Paignton who opened the scoring, Tom French and Jedd East both crossing with one of the two tries converted.

George Shinner was on hand to help Totnes hit back though, cutting the deficit to 7-12.

Paignton struck next in a back-and-forth affair, leading by 19 points to seven at half-time.

A converted Ollie Tregelles try saw Totnes get the second-half underway and Thomas Edmonds scored next to put them level. Harry Laity converted and then added a penalty, making it 24-19.

Their control of the game didn’t last though, Ben Hackman taking it to 24 apiece before scoring again, this time the winning try.

The 'Westward Salver' stays with Paignton....for now!
