STOKE Gabriel & Torbay Police were beaten late in the day as they got their new SW Peninsula League season underway on Saturday, August 8.

The Bees, with new manager Connor Marshall at the helm, were deadlocked against Ilfracombe Town at Broadley Lane until a late stunner made the difference.

In the 83rd minute, a long free-kick was headed on twice before substitute Jake Chesworth acrobatically adjusted in the air to hook it over the stranded Stoke goalkeeper.

It was a thing of beauty and a goal worthy of winning a match, even if there were some calls for offside from those in the colours of Stoke.

Stoke will be on home soil once again on the weekend (Sat 15) as they play host to Sticker AFC in the FA Vase.

Elsewhere in the division, Okehampton Argyle (four), Elburton Villa (five) and Ilminster Town (seven) were the big winners, all to nil.
