STOKE Gabriel have one more job on the ‘to-do’ list after defeating Plympton by six wickets to clinch promotion from the Tolchards DCL B Division.

Beating Plympton left Stoke dead-heated with Bideford on 255 points at the top of the table with one game to go. That is enough to bring A Division cricket to the Eastley ground for the first time in the club’s history.

Jack Tolley, the 1st XI captain, wants to go up as champions, which means beating Barton in the last game of the season AND hoping Bideford drop points away to relegated Bovey Tracey 2nd XI.

Tolley is confident Stoke can do their bit.

“We know it will be a tough game against Barton, but will look to complete the double on them and take the league title with us on our way to the A Division,” said Tolley.

“Looking ahead to Barton , we should have everyone other than Liam Mair (ankle injury) available, with checks on Justin Pringle and Mike Meech again.

Meech and Pringle both played through their niggles at Plympton to help secure the promotion-clinching win.

“They gave everything they had for the team,” said Tolley.

Harry Kandampully, the Plympton captain, was last man dismissed on 59 in his side’s all-out total of 197. The team were 25 for three when he went in.

Oli Goulder chipped in with 27 and last man Alex Carr (22no) stuck around to add 42 with his successor as captain.

Isaac Withington (3-30) and Tolley (2-26) had the stand-out bowling figures for Stoke.

“We bowled well on what was a great wicket for batting,” said Tolley.

Opene Pringle led the Villagers’ run chase with 76. His first-wicket stand of 110 with Tyler Hunter (35) put them well on their way.

Abhishek Anand (41no) and Tolley (22) rendered the outcome a formality.
