TOTNES Bowling Club’s championships, which had taken place throughout the season, drew to a close on the first weekend of September.
The finals of all competitions were played over two morning sessions and two afternoon sessions.
In all, there were 15 competitions completed ranging from mixed triples, mixed pairs, men’s and ladies pairs, handicap and various other trophies. The weekend’s weather meant that all matches were able to be completed without any delays and all competitions were keenly fought with several going down to the very last shots.
It all culminated on the Sunday afternoon with the men’s and ladies club champions being decided.
John Leonard faced Paul Gallon for the men’s championship whilst the ladies’ was up for grabs between Jenny Goss and Carol Treadwell.
Both competitions were competitively fought with John Leonard and Jenny Goss being the victorious duo.
The club championships have brought to an end a good season for Totnes Bowling Club with the men’s ‘A’ team being successful by winning Division Two of the Mid Devon League and will be promoted to division two for the 2027 season. Beyond John and Jenny’s successes, the 2-wood winners were Ian MacLean for the men and Carol Treadwell for the women. In the 3-wood competition, Roger Bastin and Wendy Roberts were the last two standing.
Roger Bastin’s glory didn’t end there either as he was the men’s handicap winner, Caroline Rogers winning for the women.
Allison & Simon Harris were the mixed pairs winners, Di Fletcher & Shirly Houghton the ladies pairs winners and Mark Darlison & William Kay the men’s pairs winners.
Allison and Shirley weren’t done there, winning the Novices Trophy and Jane’s Trophy respectively.
Lastly, Simon Harris took home the Ernie Knight Trophy and the mixed triples competition was won by Ray Eatock, Mary Shepherd & John Robert.
