Earlier this year, Optometrist Jenny Cooper joined forces with Lucy Thompson, both on a mission to offer the best eye care in the area. Cooper & Thompson Opticians have received a warm welcome from the Dartmouth community since opening their brand new practice right in the heart of town.

The bright, spacious and welcoming practice stocks a wide variety of frames, including well-known brands such as Oakley and Ray-Ban, as well as a range of high quality frames, many of which originate from Scandinavia. Swedish born Jenny moved to Salcombe in 2005 and a few years later got to know Lucy, who arrived in Salcombe from Cheltenham after living in Australia for many years. They went on to have children around the same time, and Jenny often refers to Lucy as the “sister she never had”. They both strive to provide everyone who enters the practice with outstanding customer service. “-We want our patients and customers to feel at home”, says Lucy, who has 30 years of experience in hospitality and retail. “A visit to the optician should be a stress-free, enjoyable experience, and we do everything we can to make that happen”.

The welcome from the Dartmouth community has been unparalleled and both Jenny and Lucy enjoy being in the seaside town and meeting new patients, neighbouring business owners and also visitors to the town who have needed their services whilst in Dartmouth.

With her vast clinical experience, Jenny has previously worked in paediatric and medical retina clinics at the Royal Eye Infirmary, Plymouth, and has 20 years’ experience of working in independent optical practices. As well as post-graduate qualifications in medical retina, Jenny also has additional prescribing qualifications allowing her to prescribe prescription-only eye drops such as anti-viral and steroidal drops, often reducing the need for patients with eye emergencies having to go to the hospital for treatment.
