I knew it! The Brutus Centre shopping area in Totnes is likely to be demolished for housing.
This must be stopped straight away before it gets off the ground.
Totnes needs a competitor supermarket. Kingsbridge has two, both viable as far as I know, and it is a smaller place than Totnes has become.
If a development as suggested goes ahead here, it will reduce the shopping footfall in the centre of Totnes even further. We shall become another adjunct to Torquay, in the same way that Paignton has, with no shops of practical use.
The local traders are afraid of competition from another large store, I know, but it can only benefit them as well in the end.
At the first opportunity both the town council and the district council will roll over, given half a chance, because of the extra tax income they will receive. At my age, I fear I can be of very little use but I do hope some well-organised opposition can be formed to object to this.
