Wales & West Utilities is scheduled to start a £200,000 project upgrading the gas pipes in Totnes.

The work, which starts on September 11, is reportedly ‘vital’ to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area.

Upgrades are expected to finish in November.

The work has been planned in conjunction with Devon County Council, and rolling traffic lights will be in place along the A3122 - between Collaton Cross and Oldstone Cross.

Wales & West Utilities have stated that diversion routes will be ‘clearly signposted’, but motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.

Team Lead for Wales & West Utilities, Natalie Raphael, said: “This work involves investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.

“We'll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum.

“While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.”

The investment comes as Wales & West Utilities commit to upgrading the gas pipes network across Devon over the next few years.

These works also include a five-month and £800,000 works in Yealmpton, due to finish at the end of December, and an 11-week project underway in Plympton, due to finish by October.
