It’s heartening to see so many people standing up for a safe, thriving Totnes High Street and opposing the rat-run it’s become – two letters published on March 16.
I personally have been run over in High Street and have witnessed two further hit and runs, where cars hit pedestrians and simply fail to stop.
I’ve called the police and have been told they need the registration of the vehicle and two witnesses before they will record any incidents.
So, if you do see an incident try to get the number plate and the details of another witness and get it logged, as this way Devon County Council will have to act before someone is seriously injured.
Every day I meet people complaining about the rat-run. If we all do something, we can stop it.
We could lobby Devon County Council, Totnes Town Council. We can all chip in and fund our own traffic-calming measures.
Another idea someone suggested recently is to start monitoring the speed vehicles drive up and through the High Street and reporting this. More ideas welcome. How would you like to stop the rat-run?
