Three car parks in Totnes are due to close for resurfacing and remarking works over the coming weeks.
South Hams District Council (SHDC) said Old Market car park and the two Heathway car parks off Leechwell Lane will be fully resurfaced as part of its routine maintenance programme.
Old Market car park will close from October 8 to 14, while Heathway car park, next to The Grove School, will close from October 13 to 15.
The Heathway permit holders’ car park opposite will be closed for longer, from October 8 to 16. It will be used as a compound for the works before being the final car park in the scheme to be resurfaced.
Fresh parking lines will also be painted as part of the works.
SHDC said Totnes Town Centre and Business Permit holders will be able to use permits in other Totnes car parks while the works are taking place, but that they would be contacted directly about the closures.
Cllr Victor Abbott, South Hams District Council’s Executive Member for Community Services, Operations and Leisure, said the works formed part of a wider programme to refurbish council-owned assets across the district.
He said the car parks were being resurfaced now so the work would be completed ahead of the busy Christmas period.
“We are investing in our car parks to ensure they are in good condition for our residents and visitors,” he said.
“We’re optimistic that our other car parks will have capacity while the works are carried out, including for the permit holders at Heath Way.”
Cllr Abbott added that the district council are “fully committed” to supporting communities.
“The resurfacing of a car park may not seem like much on its own,” he said. “But when looking across the entire South Hams, they add up to make a huge difference.”
