A host of goodies are on offer at a fundraising supper club in aid of disabled young people, including a sumptuous feast, live music and even tickets to a London theatre show.
The Dartington-based Lifeworks charity is launching its first ever foodie supper club at the Barrel House in Totnes on Monday March 21 from 6.30pm in a bid to raise £1,000.
Totnes Mayor, Cllr Ben Piper, who has been invited along as guest of honour, said: “I am so honoured to be asked to participate in what will, hopefully, become a regular opportunity for those of us who support Lifeworks to meet, get updates and work out what we can do to support the fantastic programme that the organisation has developed.
“As a father of an Aspergic child and brother to a high functioning autistic brother, this work to recognise and embrace the special qualities that neuro-diverse individuals can contribute to our lives is particularly resonant.
“I know that I speak for all at the town hall when I say we are proud to consider Lifeworks a community partner and that we will always look in your direction when we are considering support for the incredible network of organisations that makes our community so envied from so many directions, or simply when we need to get something like our lovely planters made.
“So, many thanks and congratulations for the great work you do.”
Guests will be serenaded by local young musicians from the Totnes-based Jam Buddies and enjoy a three course ‘sharing feast’ prepared by members of the Lifeworks Youth Group and alongside chef Sima Cutting of The Kitchen Table Totnes.
Lifeworks champion Sima said: “We will be serving a delicious menu designed with the kids, including vegetarian and gluten free options, of pizza style tartlets, paella, treacle tart and cheesecake which we will then cook together and serve in the ballroom.”
Sarah-Jane Lowson, Lifeworks community programmes development manager, said:
“We are so delighted to be launching our first supper club for our wonderful young people.
“Food is the ultimate unifier and we have found this to be true during our regular programmes for young people in the area.
“We are committed to helping our Lifeworks Young Stars to find their passion through food and self-empowerment.
“We are hoping the skills, contacts and enjoyment they reap through running their own self-funded and managed events will set them in good stead for their futures.”
An auction will be held on the night with several lots up for grabs including two tickets for Phantom of the Opera in London, a £179 folding exercise bike, miniature framed print from Kingsbridge printmaker, Emma Cook, and rum and gin workshops at Dartington Distillery.
Tickets cost £25 and are available at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lifeworks-supper-club-and-fundraising-auction-tickets-261783340017 or by emailing [email protected]
