Sponsors are being sought to help set up a regular Parkrun event in Totnes.

A team of volunteers is hoping to launch a weekly 5 kilometre run every Saturday morning through the Sharpham Estate.

But they need to raise £4,000 for the initial set up costs for timing equipment including banners and funnels for the start and finish lines, along with high visibility jackets for volunteers.

Co-ordinator Sara Mills said: “We need to raise £4,000 to set up the run for equipment, and would be grateful to any companies or individuals who would like to sponsor us, no matter how small the amount.

“Parkrun is a national and international organisation which encourages running for everyone.

“We are a small volunteer team who have been working for the last year to set one up in Totnes because we want to encourage running.

“The nearest Parkruns are Torbay and Bolberry Down. We want to set one up at Sharpham because the cycle path is a good challenging run.

“We have mapped out a 5k route there and the Sharpham estate have been very encouraging.

“Parkrun is for everyone of all ability. It’s timed but it is basically you and your personal best

“We need to raise money for the timed equipment. Each runner has a barcode and they are given a token which is then scanned at the end of the race. They are then sent their results by email.

“We also need banners and funnels for the start and finish, and hi vis jackets for volunteers.”

Anyone willing to sponsor the Totnes Parkrun can email Sara for more information at [email protected].

“Sponsors will be supporting a project encouraging fitness and their name will be on all advertising and our website,” Sara said.
