I am delighted to have received an invitation to partake of a “scrumptious cream tea” at the Totnes Conservatives day out at Pennywell Farm on April 25, although I am not a member of any political party.
But rather than explaining the programme for that splendid occasion, it would be more helpful if the branch chairman tells us what the Conservatives are doing about identifying a prospective parliamentary candidate.
Our present MP – now a member of another party – voted against the only deal on offer from the EU. She may well resign at any time and certainly will do so as and when a general election is called.
So much for David Cameron’s attempt to have Conservative candidates selected by a plebiscite, including constituents with no attachment to his party. It is essential that anyone wishing to be Dr Wollaston’s successor is identified as soon as possible, so that we may all assess their potential for that important role.
