In this week’s Totnes Times we’re running a story about a new figure that shows the number of South Hams families needing the services of food banks has doubled in the past year.

In 2010 there were only 56 food banks in the country - but now there is one in almost every community - 445 nationally in 2017 - and we have at least four in the South Hams, in Kingsbridge, Totnes, Ivybridge and Dartmouth.

More on that story is inside.

Our picture story is of the widely commemorated centenary of the end of the First World War which took place last weekend.

Inside is a story about a mum whose daughter has been denied a drug that could prolong her life and the legal battle she launches, and a couple speaking out about the stress and difficulties of claiming Universal Credit.

As usual there will be the ’What’s On’, around the clubs, and ’Village Voices’ sections inside.

If you can’t get to the shops, or you have moved out of the area, you can get all South Hams Newspapers online here: http://www.southhams-today.co.uk/subscribe.cfm.
