There’s another chance for South Hams residents to make a real difference to local pensioners this Christmas.

Present for a Pensioner is a scheme to provide hampers for people who may not receive a treat this year.

It’s the brainchild of Care Your Way, a company started by husband and wife Sarah and Manuel Sabater who provide bespoke care for people in their own homes.

The scheme has been running since 2017 and the hampers contain quality food items along with toiletries.

The hampers cost £30 to put together and people are asked to make a donation either large or small, it all counts.

Last year they filmed the scheme so they could share what it was all about. It even caught the attention of the South West’s Deputy Chief Inspector, who said:

"The Christmas season can be a time of loneliness for vulnerable people. Reaching out to them with the annual "present for a pensioner" project is something to applaud. It is lovely to see such a wonderful project, letting those people trying to live an independent life know that they are not alone and there is a wider community out there ready to support and befriend them. This is something to commend."

Last year 24 hampers were provided and organisers hope this year will be bigger and better than ever before.
