Major power failures have been reported across Devon - and the South Hams is one of the worst-hit areas.

Western Power Distribution said more than 28,500 homes in Devon lost power at about 4.53pm on Friday, August 9.

Properties in the TQ and PL21 postcodes are among the worst affected.

The utility company said the power will be restored by 6.30pm.

Western Power said: "We are currently experiencing a major incident on the national electricity infrastructure.

"We are in the process of restoring customers now and will provide further updates as soon as possible for specific areas.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing."

Kingsbridge Police said: "There are significant power cuts in Kingsbridge and many surrounding villages.

"Western Power is aware. Please view their website for up to date information."
