The art deco Burgh Island Hotel is planning to build 27 staff rooms to address the shortage of affordable housing for staff.

11 rooms on the island will be put in the area used for tennis courts and in addition 16 rooms will be sited on the mainland next to the cafe.

The plans are part of an £8m revamp to make the business financially viable which will also include more guest rooms and and extension of the Pilchard Inn.

The hotel said it had been very difficult to find affordable accommodation for their staff.

The plans will be discussed by South Hams District Councillors at a later date.
