An innovative new product dreamed up by resourceful young Kingsbridge students has scooped two top prizes in the county finals of the Young Enterprise competition.

The Kingsbridge Community College sixth form team who invented a deep cleaning system for all drinking vessels, called ‘Banish Balls,’ won ‘Most Innovative Product’ and were declared ‘Overall Winners’ for their product.

The team – Zoe Squire, Hollie Rogers, Morgan Aylett, Ellie Steer, Milly Fisher and Angus Fellows – faced stiff competition from seven other schools from across Devon, Dorset and Somerset to make it into the next round.

Their Banish Balls product has been designed to deep clean, remove stains and refresh all drinking vessels including reusable drinking flasks, bottles, mugs and cups.

Judges praised the team for the finding a gap in the market for such a product which they said encourages the use of reusable drinking containers and promotes sustainability. The team is now looking forward to taking part next round of the competition where they will be battling it out with schools from across the South West.

Fiona Bennett, Sixth Form study supervisor, said: “The team are now in the process of reviewing their product and business systems in order to make any improvements so they can be ready to be interviewed by the judges again.”
