I wholeheartedly agree with your correspondent, Chronicle May 11, who thinks the NHS should convert our hospital into the new health and well- being centre for the town –but only on a temporary basis.
When the benefits of Brexit become clear and we once again generate wealth as a trading nation, the NHS can revisit our health problems in an improved financial climate and build the town a suitable health centre.
Any solution arrived at now is likely to be a stop gap, governed by ever tightening purse strings and possibly unsuitable for the town’s needs in years to come. The precipitate closure of our hospital was far too hasty, especially as no lease was signed for River View and which is now ‘dead in the water’. We are yet to hear if the trust has a plan B.
