The Met Office has issued an amber warning for the whole of the South West with some parts set to be hit by winds of up to 80mph as the country braces for Storm Eunice.
The MET office warns that there is a good chance that flying debris could result in a ‘danger to life’ with damage to buildings and homes being likely.
High flood risk areas have been warned by councils to prepare as the strong winds will likely cause tidal surges.
The Amber warning is expected to be in effect from 3am Friday morning until 9pm Friday evening.
Whilst there is still some uncertainty in the track of Eunice, there is an increasing likelihood of widespread inland wind gusts of 60 to 70mph, (97km/h to 113km/h) and up to 80mph (129km/h) in a few places.
