I am 73, an able pensioner and come to the realisation that I was not sure what to do if someone collapsed in the street, despite the fact that I’m a retired headmistress.

I looked for a course to do, CPR and how to use a defibrillator – mouth-to-mouth resuscitation is no longer used.

I searched thoroughly, but only found a course for £275 which is out of the price range, on a pension.

Surely there should be courses available at a low price or free.

The NHS has asked us to help each other, not to go to the doctor if a chemist will do, not to use accident and emergencg unless there is no other way etc. o surely this training should be free – or low cost – and the public encouraged to learn how to help someone who is collapsed in the street or fallen.

I left a message with our Leatside Surgery to see if they’d consider such a course. I’m sure half a days course would be adequate to teach these things.

I feel the public should be informed of the situation and told where to go for the courses locally.
