A South Hams woman has been released after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Paignton.

Police say a 23-year-old man suffered “life-threatening injuries” on the A3022 Brixham Road on Sunday, October 13.

He was taken to Torbay Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

A 26-year-old woman, from Totnes, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Police say she has since been released under investigation pending further inquiries.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 10.45pm on Sunday, October 13, to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A3022 Brixham Road, Paignton.

“Emergency services attended the scene, situated between Borough Road and the Tweenaway junction.

“A 23-year-old man, local to the area, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Torbay Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

“His next of kin have been informed.

“The occupants of the car were uninjured.

“Local police officers and specialist officers from the Roads Policing Team and Armed Response Unit attended the scene, closed the road and launched a full forensic examination.

“A 26-year-old woman, from Totnes, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs.

“She has since been released under investigation pending further inquiries.

“Police are requesting that any witnesses with any information and or dash camera footage are to please come forward, unless they have already been in contact with officers at the scene.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 861 of October 13.”
