Detectives involved in a murder investigation have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses.
It comes following the discovery of a body in woodland near Salcombe, which was later identified as that of missing London woman Mee Chong.
Mee Chong, who was also known as Deborah, was originally from Malaysia but had been living in the Wembley area of London since 2004.
At approximately 5pm on Sunday, June 27, Mee Chong’s body was located in a wooded area near Bennett Road. Mee Chong was last seen in London on Thursday 10 June and reported missing to the Metropolitan Police on Friday 11 June.
A forensic post-mortem examination has now been completed and police are treating the death as murder.
Crime scenes remain in place at two residential premises in North West London and police searches are likely to continue over the coming days.
Jemma Mitchell, 36, of Brondesbury Park, Brent, was arrested on Tuesday, July 6 and charged with Mee Chong’s murder.
Jemma appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, July 13 and is currently on remand.
A murder investigation is being run by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood, who is leading the murder investigation, said: “The discovery of Mee’s body is a tragic development and my thoughts are with her family and friends.
"At this stage, we are working on establishing the full circumstances surrounding Mee’s death and in particular her movements.
“I would ask anyone come that may have seen any suspicious activity on Bennett Road, Salcombe on the 27th June 2021 and any persons who have walked through that area on the 25 or 26 June 2021, who has not yet spoken to police, to please come forward. "It is absolutely vital that anyone who may have information about Mee’s movements over this period share what they know to help us fully understand what happened to her.”
