A man suffering from burns was taken to hospital following a fire that broke out in a shed in Totnes in the early hours of this morning.

Fire control received numerous calls to the blaze at Kingsbridge Hill at 3.13am and mobilised two fire engines from Totnes and Paignton to attend the scene.

On arrival crews confirmed the shed was well alight and requested the attendance of another fire engine from Paignton and a water carrier from Torquay.

Crews used two hose reel jets and one compressed air foam jet to douse the flames.

They also confirmed that a man was suffering from burns and requested the attendance of the ambulance service, which then took him to hospital.

Highways agency was also requested to help with traffic management.
