A man has been arrested after police officers were allegedly threatened at gunpoint in a South Hams village.
Police in Kingsbridge were called to Aveton Gifford at about 4.30am on Thursday following a concern for welfare call.
On arrival, officers say they were “threatened with a firearm” and withdrew from the property to await armed response units.
A suspect has since been arrested and taken to hospital for treatment.
Kingsbridge Police said: “At approximately 4.30am, police received a call from the South Western Ambulance Service to attend an address in Aveton Gifford for a concern for welfare for a male.
“On arrival, officers were threatened with a firearm and so withdrew to safety.
“Numerous officers, including specialist negotiators and firearms officers attended.
“At about 8.40am a man was arrested for numerous offences and taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment to self-harm injuries.”
