Brent hosts successful judo ‘rumble’ contest

By Tim Leigh in Martial Arts

South Brent Judo Club held their popular Under 12 Mad March Red and Yellow Belt Rumble recently.

This was well attended by local clubs including Ivybridge Judo Club, Drake, Truro, One for All Judo and Kingsley Judo Club.

More than 30 young judoka stepped onto the mat and competed with great determination.

For many this was their first competition and they did themselves and their club’s proud. SBJCs qualified officials were in action, coaching, refereeing and timekeeping, they ably guided their young judoka to an enjoyable experience whether in victory or defeat.

The players were placed into pools rather than strict weight categories and the SBJC gold medallists were Lara Butler and Ellie Shipp. A tremendous result for both girls, especially as it was Ellie’s first competition.

Silver medallists were Martha Upton and Maddox Callard.

No event runs itself and the club committee and parents all rallied round to lay mats, time keep and other tasks in what was a real team effort. The club wishes to give a special mention to Dawn and Oli Michelin from the Horse and Groom for their kind donation of food.
