Brook in five-star showing

SDFL Division Three

Meadowbrook Athletic 5, Upton Athletic reserves 1

Brook kept up the pressure on the leading teams in division three with a hard-fought victory over an Upton side whose squad did not really reflect a side struggling at the wrong end of the table.

The visitors were always dangerous in front of goal and very physical, so a game that looked like a home banker on paper for Brook turned into a real challenge.

As such, the whole squad deserve great credit for producing this result.

Brook raced into an early two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Hingston and Collings, but a defensive lapse just before half time allowed Bastow to reduce the arrears for the visitors.

Upton looked like they were about to get a foothold in the game when they were awarded a penalty on the hour – however, Leaman in the Brook goal produced a wonderful one-handed save to keep Brook in the game.

He then produced a timely interception on the edge of his box and his clearance set up Collings for his second goal.

Brook then took complete control of the game Judkins scored a fourth and Collings completed his hat-trick to complete a fine afternoon for him following his recent addition to the Brook squad.
