Roman makes bow

Devon county swimming held its annual sprint event at the Life Centre in Plymouth on March 5. The event was attended by some 230 girls and 150 boys from all over Devon.

Totnes only had one competitor taking part in this meet, 16-year-old Roman Zaki competing in his first-ever county event.

His best result came in his first swim, the 50m breaststroke, where he produced a massive personal best of 37.13 seconds to take a bronze medal, with the event being won by Alex Christie in 35.98. He backed this up with a personal best in the 50m butterfly in 33.82, where he finished 11th.

Roman then finished his competition with another great swim in another personal best for the 50 freestyle in 28.76, finishing in the top eight. This rounded off a very successful first outing for the Totnes swimmer.
