The seniors at Dainton Park Golf Club successfully played all four of their Monday competitions through February despite wind, rain, snow and hail – and even enjoyed some sunshine too.
Some bunkers were out of play and occasionally there was the odd winter green in use, but generally the course at has looked and played superbly through this winter, standing up well to every sort of conditions.
There has been some excellent winter golf played too – with Steve Smith in division one leading the way, winning two Monday competitions and taking the overall seniors’ winter eclectic 2016/17 title.
The final two rounds of the winter eclectic were played on Monday, February 13 and 27 February. In round seven the winner in division one was Steve Smith (nine) with 45 points, from Alan Rastrick (17) with 41 points, and Derek Conbeer (17) with 40 points.
In division two the winner was Ivor Oatridge (20) with 46 points, from Peter Taverner (21) with 39 points, and Chris Griffiths (19) with 38 points.
In round eight the winner in division one was Peter Kelly (16) with 43 points, from Steve Smith (nine) with 41 points, and Richard Mitchell (17) with 39 points. The winner in division two was Steve Uppington (19) with 44 points, from Bill Board (26) with 43 points and Chris Jupe (20) with 40 points.
Congratulations go to the overall Seniors Winter Eclectic 2016/17 winners. Steve Smith (nine) with a fantastic best net score of 49 in division one, with Peter Kelly (16) second with a best net 52, and Toby Downer (17) third with a best net 53.
In division two the overall winner was Gordon Aspland (23) with a great best net 51, from Roger Haines (20) with a best net 53, and long-time leader Barry Myers (21) third on count back also with a best net 53.
The Winter League rounds six and seven were played on Monday, February 6, and February 20 – with the final round due to be played in mid March.
The round six winner in division one was Alan Rastrick (17) with 38 points, from Steve Smith(9) and Derek Conbeer (17) both with 37 points.
In division two the winner was Ivor Oatridge (20) with 38 points, from Howard Chapman (21) with 37 points, and Peter Northcott (21) with 36 points. The round seven winner in division one was Graham Hull (nine) with 43 points, from Roger Carpenter (15) with 42 points, and Stuart Witheridge (15) with 41 points.
In division two the winner was Colin Ferris (24) with 42 points, from Ivor Oatridge (20) and Dave Ripping (27) both with 39 points.
As well as the final round of the Winter League, two stablefords and a team bowmaker competition, March is busy with the first Dainton Park seniors’ friendly matches of the season.
These start with the away fixture against Churston, followed by the away fixture against Tavistock and then two home fixtures against Bigbury and Exeter.
