Hoteliers reminded about TV licences

By Toby Leigh in Local People

Hotel owners in the Totnes area are being warned to ensure they have shelled out for a TV licence.

Smaller hotels and guesthouses are covered by the £145.50 TV licence that ordinary householders have, but hotels with more than 15 rooms are only covered for those 15, and they need a separate licence for every five rooms after that.

UK TV Licensing reckons there are some 150 hotels within a 10-mile radius of Totnes.

A TV Licensing spokesman said: ‘Budget hotels, boutique B&Bs, luxury spa resorts or serviced apartments must all be covered by a valid TV licence if guests or staff are watching TV as it is broadcast.

‘All viewers who use the iPlayer to watch any BBC programmes must also now be covered by a TV licence after new rules came into force in September.’
